Sex at Midlife: What We Aren't Talking About

One of the most common menopausal complaints I hear from my blog readers is their lack of sex drive, and since most are in their 40's or early 50's, they have legitimate concerns and fears that they will never enjoy sex again. It can ruin marriages. This article from Third Age discusses some of the changes that women experience as they reach perimenopause and menopause. It's unfortunate that a lot of women are uncomfortable talking to their doctors about this, as sexuality is a wonderful, natural part of life, and there is so much that can be done to improve sex drive and alleviate uncomfortable physical symptoms that interfer with sexual activity.

What Is Menopause? What Are The Symptoms Of Menopause?

Medical News Today
Editor's Choice Main Category: Menopause

The menopause marks the time in a woman's life when her menstruation stops and she is no longer fertile (able to become pregnant). In the UK the average age for the menopause is 52 (National Health Service), while in the USA it is 51 (National Institute of Aging). About one fifth of women in India experience menopause before the age of 41, a study found. The menopause is a normal part of like - it is a milestone, just like puberty - it is not a disease or a condition. Even though it is the time of the woman's last period symptoms may begin many years earlier. Some women may experience symptoms for months or years afterwards. Note from Andrea: I have the usual problems with this article---no differentiation between HRT with synthetic hormones and BHRT which is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and the ever present recommendation of antidepressants for menopausal symptoms. The article, does, however, present a good overview of menopausal symptoms, and for that reason I am including it as a post this morning. Have a great day, everyone!

TV Show Alert!

The Doctors TV show (it's in syndication, usually on in the afternoons in most markets) is going to air a segment tomorrow on menopause before the age of 40. It should be pretty interesting, as apparently the doctor who is the regular physician on the show says menopause does not occur before age 40, but the guest physican disagrees (ooooooh, cat fight?????----sorry, everyone, I am in a silly mood today-----it's my birthday week!) Just thought I would share the information with you! I'll comment after the show. Here's the link for the show's website!
